Introduction to Forex Options

Forex options are a kind of derivatives which confers on the buyer or seller a right not an obligation to buy / sell or exchange a foreign currency at his discretion. What this means is that if the agreed time for the buy / sell approaches and the buyer / seller discovers that the transaction is not in his best interest, he allows the agreement to expire naturally, that is, he does not exercise the obligation. Hence it is an option to exercise a right.

Today forex option market is worth trillions in dollars and can be regarded as the most liquid. Individuals and corporate organziatons are involved in the forex options market, with several online forex trading houses providing trading platforms to actualize the transactions.

Forex option can either be Put / Call option or SPOT (Single Payment Option Trading) option. A Put option is not the opposite of a Call option. Put and Call options give the options holder for paying a premium the right but not the obligation to sell (Put) or buy (Call) the currency at specified date and price. Put and Call option are also called traditional option, it allows the buyer / seller to choose a scenario of his expected outcome. If the outcome materializes he exercises the option and makes a profit, if not he looses only the premium to the deal. SPOT option which is easier than the traditional option. SPOT option currencies traded are Euro, GBP, CAD, USD, Yen, and AUD etc. SPOT option limit the risk and at the same time provides opportunity for unlimited profit potentials, because the trader gets to choose his own scenarios and outcome, if he is knowledgeable, he can hardly go wrong.

While non professionals can engage in forex option trading, it is better to use the services of a professional, that way you are guaranteed returns, and even if you loose, the lost might be mitigated. Most trading houses offer this service with a caveat that forex trading involves risks, so if you fully understand the risks involved then you are ready to engage in forex option trading.
